NONPROFIT Being Defined

What truly is a NONPROFIT??
Nonprofits can be a charity or nongovernmental organization. Also, they are not making a profit or by what they give away in general. For example, YMCA, SoupKitchen, American Red Cross, and Creative Commons. These organizations need volunteers to work to help them out with what they need to be done to bring them together. Also, it is defined by the tax statue, because the money that they have left needs to be spent on like, having volunteers or having different directors on the board. These components will help the various community to expand nonprofit and the diverse community.
The few characteristics that are in the reading is having a purpose like the mission statement. Putting out there what the organizations so people can understand the meaning. Another one is having control(A standard form of organization) over the organization so that could be having directors board that will help control everything that needs to be done on a monthly basis or daily. Also, having voluntary board leadership is creating a committee that will lead help by making decisions on the organization’s plans by achieving the mission of the nonprofit. Lastly having public benefits that will help serve the public by benefiting a huge community.
QUESTION:

For the one the characteristics are independence. Would they need dependence on the government and the donations that they get?

  1. Hi Emily, Thanks for your post! I'm thinking about your question and I think there may be two meanings for independent. Firstly, nonprofits are definitely reliant on donations from individuals, foundations, and the government. But I believe what they are referring to here is the independent structure of nonprofit organizations so that they have their own staff, mission, board, etc. Does that make sense?

Also, I love your use of hyperlinks--maybe in the future you can choose one result that you particularly like from the google search.
