The Rhode Island Foundation


The mission statement of The Rhode Island Foundation is; “The Rhode Island Foundation is a proactive community and philanthropic leader dedicated to meeting the needs of the people of Rhode Island.” This foundation was founded in 1916 and is the nation’s oldest and largest community foundations. Also, they are the largest funder of Rhode Island’s nonprofit sectors, which also means it’s the only community foundation too.
There is a quote that the founders wrote, “There is a growing belief that the charitable problems of each generation can better be, and should be, solved by the best minds of each generation.”
It doesn’t really say who donate or where the money comes from. It’s more like who they donate to and what kind of funds there are in the foundation.
Here are a few of their grant programs:
·        Barrington District Nursing Association Fund: Supports programs that ensure the physical and mental health and well-being of Barrington residents.

·        Bristol Female Charitable Society: Funds East Bay nonprofit organizations, with a preference for those providing services in Bristol.

·        Chariho Community Innovative Projects Fund: Supports creative projects developed by teachers, students, or community members in Chariho school district.


Two Questions;
1.      What are some ways to make it easier or how would someone from the foundation navigate the website themselves?
2.      For being a big foundation how would you keep record with all the funds, that have happened so far?

The central argument of this article is philanthropy, but also the main critiques of the nonprofit sector and funding. Jenny Price wrote about how they are getting big donations from huge corporations to the organization but by the being said, they are receiving tax write-offs in return. THEORY CHANGE

What one of the problems in my internship is trying to solve is children missing meals or are hungry all the time and when we achieve this by providing them with healthy snacks . For this, we pick different healthy snacks that we are presented with and if they don’t like that snack they put it on the share table. We also provide opportunities throughout the week that are a different snack but, even let them eat how much they want within reason . On an average day, we serve snack by portioning the right amount, and if they want another round of snack, they first look at the share table. This is a way to help the children know that we shouldn’t just throw out the food we want because someone else might want what you don’t want. PLAYBOX: Being Silly

Playbox: BEING SILLY My story time:  Why Haley and I chose this specific project of puppets for being silly. When we decided the puppets because we found that they are very essential to child care. These puppets that we made are not only for play, but it’s talking to children by expressing your emotions. Also, They help make the environment more light in tough situations like how Rachel mention in our Playbox. When doing those puppets, it leads to a conversation that can help everyone relate. When creating the puppets we can have different race/ ethnicity by expressing the way they are making them. My experience planning out : To tell you the truth Haley did most of the planning; this activity took her five minutes to plan. So, when I asked her what you would like me to do?
