Creating/Understanding Mission Statements
“The mission of the YMCA
of Greater Providence is to build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all, through programs, services, and relationships that are based upon our core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
The vision of the YMCA of greater
providence is to become the most valued resource for families and individuals
seeking healthy lifestyles and wellness.”
The mission statement in my own words: The YMCA of Greater Providence will
become a place where they want to help create a space that will shape healthy
spirit, mind, and body for everyone. By
going through various programs, services, and
building relationships that develop with the essential
values; caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Every member will pursue support from healthy lifestyles and wellness.
I did not
have any problems creating a new mission statement in my own words. However, I feel like it is
hard not to make it similar to anyone
else. However, using the key/ essential values are caring, honesty, respect,
and responsibility to the mission statement. I
think I would look more into the website to
see if I could add different context to the statement.
When looking
at worksheet/evaluate the mission statement for the YMCA of Greater Providence
is too many words and not getting to the point until the core values. I think
the core values and be used as the mission statement and include other resources
that they want to explain.
Thanks for your post Emily. Why do you feel that the core values are crucial to the mission statement and what additional context would you hope to add?
